We'll be monitoring Gertie's temperature twice each day. We're watching for her temperature to drop to 98°F, a signal that labor may be just around the corner. I will post a chart of her temperature readings in the box at the top of the left-hand column.
Tom and Harriet, you may not remember me but I used to ride at Jennifer's place in St. Joe years ago , and I had an arabian stallion named Algid, I knew Mary, your next door neighbor. My name is Martha. I was the who found Gertie in a rural street after being almost hit by three cars. I pulled into a driveway and pulled out my dog treats to see if I could catch her as she seemed lost and distressed. At first she walked the other way but I threw a treat out near her and eventually she ate her way to me and I caught her. The only place I knew to take her was the CCHS so I did and in the short time I interacted with her, she warmed right up, wagged her tail, climbed from the back seat of my car from a blanket onto the center console and put her front paw on the steering wheel and she rode that way all the way to CCHS - just as trusting and sweet as could be, to me she seems very social and smart. I wish I could help rehab her but am not in a position to at the moment especially with the suspected pregnancy. I have two rescue corgis. I'm glad that you guys have her and she is safe, she certainly would not have survived the snowstorm where I found her. I think that she will make a great companion for someone. I bet her puppies are cute too so I'll keep checking the website and will make a donation for her care, all the best to you
ReplyDeleteNow that's some coincidence! How nice to hear from you. It's been a long time since we had a horse at Dick and Jennifer's place. I remember it fondly.
ReplyDeleteGertie is a really nice dog. I agree that she will make a wonderful companion for someone. She's safe here and we will take good care of her. Thanks for turning her in, this cold weather would have done her in.
That was a wonderful thing you did Martha. So many people wouldn't have taken the time and the trouble to rescue this poor little thing. Thank you for doing so.
ReplyDeleteHey, Martha! Gertie couldn't be in a better foster situation. Good luck with your rescue corgis. -- Mary
