When Gertie came to us a few weeks ago we knew that she had been found running loose in traffic. Some kind person caught her and took to the Champaign County Humane Society. Little did we know that the Good Samaritan would turn out to be Martha, a person Harriett and I knew when we boarded horses at the same stable…20 years ago!
Earlier today Martha came by for a visit with Gertie and the pups. She brought peanut butter biscuits and a stuffed bone for Gertie and met the new family.
Martha got to hold all the puppies and spend some quality time with Gertie. She also gave us more details about how she happened to find Gertie. Here’s a short video clip in which Martha talks about finding Gertie running in the street.
The story is more remarkable because Martha was on her way to a business lunch with clients when she came across Gertie. After she picked up Gertie she went on to her lunch meeting and finished her business, then took Gertie to CCHS. It’s an amazing story.
