Josie

On my way home this afternoon I stopped by the Champaign County Humane Society and picked up Josie. Josie is a 2 year old, 22 pound, Border Terrier mix who was relinquished to the shelter because her owners no longer wanted to deal with her. They got her as a puppy and as soon as the novelty wore off that was the end of their interest. She has never gone to training, wasn’t housebroken, and wasn’t socialized.

Because of irresponsible owners she’s homeless and has no life skills to make her easily adoptable. She’ll be with us for a while to see if she can overcome some of her shyness.

There’s been some encouraging developments. The Base Pack was together and Josie was in the room with them. All of a sudden we heard the tell-tale sounds of a play pounce. It was Josie play pouncing Sidney. They made two laps around the house, Josie in front, unsure of what she had started, and Sidney chasing. A few minutes later Josie tossed a tennis ball in my direction, though she didn’t go get it when I tossed it for her. She wants to play, she just hasn’t figured out how to do it. We’ll see if we can help her with that!

Border Terriers, by the way, are very playful dogs. We had a few on our team when we played flyball years ago. They’re rugged, athletic little dogs. East to get along with and quick learners.

If you’re interested in adopting Josie contact Michelle at CCHS.

Josie is adorable! I hope that she'll find an owner who gives her the care and attention she deserves. How lucky that she's with you all for the moment.
