Geo Moves On

100129T014

We thought Geo was going to a new forever home today, but the adoption was cancelled. The family that was interested in Geo has cats and they decided not to bring a new dog into the household. That’s OK…you must always consider the animals you already have in the house before bringing in a new one.

This is a good example of why there is a mandatory 24 hour waiting period for all adoptions at CCHS. The delay gives the potential adopters time to reconsider their decision and think about things that didn’t come to mind in the excitement of meeting a new dog. We think this is a very good thing. It’s better for a dog not to go to a new home and then come right back to the Shelter, or worse yet, go to a home where they are not wanted as a permanent part of the family. Current statistics are not available, but the number of cancelled adoptions has been as high as 20%.

Now that we have a litter of puppies, Geo’s moving to another foster home. She’ll be living with Allison, the person who fostered S’morsie, a dog we featured in an earlier post.

Geo is available for adoption (and for the record, she’s very good with cats). Call the Shelter for more information or to arrange a meeting. Hopefully we’ll hear about Geo from whoever adopts her and we’ll be sure to pass on future updates.

  1. Change of foster plans - Geo looks so much like my older pit bull that when I heard she was back at the shelter I had to bring her home and see if they get along. She's winning everyone over so far! Geo is a wonderful dog!

  2. Kristen,

Thanks for the note! Things sure have moved fast with Geo today.

I'm sure she will get along great with your dogs and you'll agree with us that she's a real gem. It must have been very hard for her previous owner to give her up.

Please keep in touch with us and let us know how it goes. If you adopt her we'd love to have pictures and updates to post on this blog.

    Hi Tom,

Absolutely! I'll send pictures soon. And you're right. She's a total gem. I'm in love with her. Both of my dogs (Wink, the border collie, and Juno, my little 10-year-old pit bull) seem smitten too. They've both played with her already, and she's lying on the couch right now, looking like she's been with us for years....

  4. Kristen, how lucky can you get! A border collie and two pitties in the house! Please keep us posted either here or at the PupsIsPups chat on how little Geo does with you and your crew. I'm also a big fan of hers (even if I've never met her... I find her brown eye (*wink*) and crooked pink ears beyond adorable. Geo is truly a "gem"! :)

  6. Hi guys,

Just wanted to send a Geo update. She's as happy as a little clam. :-) We just came inside after a walk and evening romp in the yard. Geo and Wink (8-year-old border collie) zoomed around the yard together, chasing each other in circles, play bowing like mad---and, eventually, Juno (10-year-old little pit bull), the delicate old girl, decided to join in. Now Geo and Wink are lying next to each other on comfy beds, enjoying a good chew before bedtime.

It took Geo a mere 10 to 15 minutes to come out of her shell after I brought her into our house for the first time. I was amazed at how quickly the timid little thing showed us her fabulous, wide Staffy smile and started to nudge our hands for scritches on the head. Geo gets along pretty well with Juno and Wink so far. They're still figuring each other out, I think. When Juno first met Geo, there was a lot of wagging, ear licking and play bowing. Wink instantly took a shine to her too. Since then, Geo's decided that Wink sometimes needs to be scolded if he plays too roughly---and Juno's decided that the same applies for Geo. Nevertheless, they seem to dig each other overall. And, yes, Allison---if Juno and Wink don't vote her off of the island over the next week or two, Geo's staying. I adore her. She really is an exceptional dog.

More updates and photos to come,
Kristen (and Juno, Wink and Geo)

  7. Fantastic news, Kristen! Geo is really amazing. Timid, but at the same time she comes out of that mode very quickly. She's a very good dog and I am glad she's fitting in with your crew.
