One of the huge benefits of social networking for Harriett and I is that every now and then we get news of a foster dog we once had in our care. Yesterday we heard from the owner of Jesse James, a dog we had as a puppy in April of 1996. It’s his 14th birthday and his owner wrote a wonderful tribute to him on her blog, The Year of Turning Sixty.
Harriett’s been going through our foster books and archives and found this picture of Jesse James as a young pup. That’s Jesse James on the left at about 8 weeks of age. The photo on the right shows the litter reading a poster entitled “Be A Good Dog!.” The mother of the litter we had just before this one had done a huge amount of damage to our puppy room and we decided to post some rules of good behavior.
If you’ve adopted one of the many dogs or puppies we had in foster care we would love to hear from you. You can send pictures and stories to me at tschaefges@gmail.com.

Tom, what a wonderful tribute to one of your former charges. This is the kind of story that makes it all worthwhile, right? I can definitely relate to what she is going thru.

The article "An Old Dog's Life" is truly touching. How wonderful you have his baby pictures! Such a cute little puppy and then he grew into a handsome fella. After reading the article it seems Jesse James was a perfect name for this little trouble seeker. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to send the article to my friend Kathy, who lost her beloved Australian Shepherd last November at the glorious age of 19! Even though our pets get old and gray, they're still little puppies in the hearts of their human family.
